“Mr. Western” is an enterprise personality profile centered around Lee Robertson, an iconic embodiment of “The Spirit Makes the Master.” He’s been a mainstay at WKU for a half century and his passion for the university is unmatched. At 92, Robertson is still an active member of the Hilltopper community, although he’s had to overcome several hurdles in the process. He would do anything for anyone affiliated with WKU, and his story reflects that. Because if you’re a part of the WKU family — you’re a part of his.
Kyle, a Dec. 2014 graduate, composed this piece for his news/editorial journalism capstone course. His assignment was to create an enterprise story, and he was given the semester to do so. He interviewed all sources, with the exception of WKU President Gary Ransdell (courtesy of Kae Holloway), and consulted Paul Just, WKU sports historian, for all photos. Kyle now works for The Courier-Journal in Louisville as a digital sports producer. He joined the College Heights Herald sports staff in January of 2013 and spent his final semester on staff as sports editor.
